"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
-Gandhi
Every year on my birthday, someone will inevitably ask the same question... do you feel any older? Of course, the answer is always no. However, there are sporadic moments throughout the year when I realize that I am maturing. These moments definitely do not happen often enough, but every time they do, I am able to see how much I've changed.
Just what type of moments am I talking about?
- When I realized that my parents are actually fun to hang out with
- Being content with staying in on a Saturday night... even if it's just so I can read leisurely
- The bittersweet feeling I get at the end of every summer- sad that summer is over, but excited about going back to school
My most recent discovery happened while I was driving around the other day. I was admiring the luscious reds, oranges, yellows, and browns of the changing trees... and then it hit me. I love living in a climate that experiences all four seasons! This is a confession that only a few years ago I would have never thought possible. I always imagined myself sprinting out of the Midwest to the West Coast as soon as possible. But now, I am realizing just how amazing the changing of the seasons really is. Just in the fall season alone, there are so many activities to do, such as:
- pumpkin carving
- haunted houses
- apple orchards (homemade apple pie... yum!)
- taking road trips to places throughout the state to see the vibrant fall foliage
- Thanksgiving
And just as soon as this list runs out, winter and all of the fun associated with it will be here!
